By thisreadingmama 5 Comments

free phonics and Bible curriculumToday, I am excited to post lesson 2 of Unit 2 for my Phonics by The Book beginning reader curriculum.  If you’re new to this series and would like to read more about it or see any of the previous lessons, click on the image above.

Lesson 2 focuses on the story of Joshua’s leadership as the Israelites destory Jericho (taken from Deuteronomy 31, Joshua 1-6).  The phonics skill is the long i (I_E) pattern.

Unit 2-Lesson 2 Outline

There is a 5-day Lesson Outline for all the activities, plus writing prompts and ideas for each day.

God Was on Their Side Reader

Also included is a phonics reader (ALuv REALLY got into the story this week.  It was fun to see.)

Phonics and Sight Word Activities/Games such as:

Free Long i Word Family Sort

Long i pattern sort-most words are pulled directly from the reader

Spin a Pattern Game with Long i patternSpin a Pattern (with patterns from the sort)

Sight Word Maze

A-“maze”-ing Sight Words

Hidden Sight Words

I Spy Sight Words-findthe hidden words in the picture

and several more!  If you’re unsure how to implement any of these activities, the posts from Unit 1, Lesson 1 and Unit 2, Lesson 1 will probably be most helpful.  But if you’ve been using these lessons with your child, the activities included will already be familiar.

Just wanted to let you know what a blessing these readers have been for my first grader. She loves the stories, games and learning about the Bible with them. Thank you so much!

Hi Becky I love this reading curriculum based on the Word of God

Do you plan to continue it? It would be really nice if you do.

If we get children to read God’s word from an early age, they will grow up with a love for him in their hearts.
