By thisreadingmama 7 Comments

free phonics and Bible curriculum

I’m excited to share with you the next lesson in my Phonics by The Book curriculum.  If you’re new to This Reading Mama, please feel free to click on the picture above.  You can read the introduction and see all of the lessons I’ve written thus far.

A big “THANK YOU” goes to Masaru of www.christiancliparts.net for drawing up 5 new pictures for this book!

Unit 2-Lesson3Outline

The lesson comes with a 5-day outline.  Feel free to pick and choose the activities you’d like to use with your child.  Please do not feel obligated to do every single one.  We certainly don’t every time.  The activities work well together, but are just as effective in teaching your child if done separately.

Some of the activities included in the pack:

The God of Hope

The God of Hope Reader (focused on the o_e pattern) and the story of Gideon- 9 pages long.  The first page lists the 32 o_e words included in the reader.

Activities to Reinforce the o_e Pattern:

making words with long o pattern

Little Words-making little words from the word THRONES

Activities to Reinforce Sight Words at a 1st Grade Level, such as

I Spy Sight Words

And Activities that Review BOTH Sight Words & Phonics, such as

Photo of Roll and Write a Sentence ActivityRoll and Write a Sentence

There are also Bible verse and writing activities that correspond and support the theme that we usually do not do each week, but are included just in case you’d like to use them. 🙂

I look forward to your suggestions and input. I have a child who loves to read and one who likes to read. The biggest issue is the “likes” is having difficulty with spelling and can not (NOT) here the phonics of words. I am trying different things, but memorization is the main thing.

I taught ABeka so I was taught the correct pronunciation of sounds, and she still is struggling. I need to spend more time with my struggling one but need to make it “worth” her while.

Homeschooling has been a joy, except for this.

I’d like to hear more about your “likes” to child. How does she do with spelling?

She is a lousy speller. I have tried everything. I have worked with her on phonics and sounds. She is a pretty good reader, but can not decipher some words. She is better with large words, which is very frustrating when reading. When we spend lots of time working on words and the spelling, she memorizes these but then we can review later and can’t spell most of them later.

        I am lost.

Do you happen to have a PDF file of The God of Hope reader? I’m using my iPad and can’t download it.
