If you’re working through the Bible stories of the Old Testament with your child or with your Sunday School class, check out these FREE prompts!

Nearly all the prompts in this pack were designed to follow the stories covered in The Gospel Storybook Bible. The last two OT prompts about Esther are not in The Gospel Storybook Bible. You can find all my suggestions for Story Bibles for Young Children.

Old Testament Prompts

Eighty {Yes, that’s 80!} Old Testament passages are included in this free pack as well as a cover page if you want to make it into a notebook for your child/learners. Two levels of work are included so it can benefit prewriters as well as kids who can already write.

Old Testament Prompts ~ Level 1 ~ Read and Draw ~ This Reading Mama

Level 1 ~ Read and Draw ~ Great for prewriters or struggling writers. This is how to use them:

  • Read the Bible story together.
  • Stop to discuss concepts along the way as you read.
  • If you’re using The Gospel Storybook Bible, discuss the “Let’s Talk About It!” questions at the end.
  • Ask your child to draw a picture related to the Bible story. If they’d like, they can label the picture by writing words in the picture. For example, if they draw a picture of Joseph, they can write “Joseph” beside him on the page.
  • From time to time, go back through the pages to see what your child remembers about each Bible passage.

Old Testament Prompts ~ Level 2 ~ Read, Draw, and Write ~ This Reading Mama

Level 2 ~ Read, Draw, & Write ~ Great for older learners. This is how to use them:

  • Read the Bible story together.
  • Stop to discuss concepts along the way as you read.
  • If you’re using The Gospel Storybook Bible, discuss the “Let’s Talk About It!” questions at the end. Note: The last two OT read, draw, and write prompts about Esther are not in The Gospel Storybook Bible.
  • Ask your child to draw a picture related to the Bible story.
  • Ask your child to write a sentence or two about the Bible story or their picture on the lines at the bottom of the page.
  • From time to time, go back through the pages to see what your child remembers about each Bible passage.
