Months of the Year Chart

We dropped our daily calendar time because it was on the boring side for my 2nd and 3rd grader last school year. This meant that my Kindergartner didn’t get calendar math time. And although she had it in preschool, it just didn’t stick as well for her {surprise, surprise}.

At the beginning of this year, I made her an Individual Calendar Page that we could work on together. Because of this, I feel much better about her calendar concepts now.

But when the new year came, we were talking about the months of the year and I realized she didn’t know them as well as I thought {in the right order}. Nor did she understand what happens after December…that it loops back again to January.

So I felt that it would help to have a simple chart that contained the months of the year to go with her calendar recording page {we have ours in a dry erase pocket so it’s reusable}. I also decided to add the days of the week to the chart, just to have everything covered.

Now when we do our calendar time, we can briefly go over ALL the months and days of the week in order, too.

Want to Incorporate Music, too?

I highly recommend it to help the concepts stick better.

A Months of the Year Song can be found on this Greg & Steve album {in English & Spanish}. This is one of my favorite albums for teaching! It’s an absolute classic!

A days of the week song can be sung to the tune of The Adam’s Family. Dr. Jean has a cute one on YouTube.
