Here we go. Online learning on the fly! Let’s talk today about Google Classroom and using digital products.
I’ve only made a few of these digital products {more are coming}, but I know you have questions!
Please note: Just like said when I posted about how to convert PDFs for distant learning, I am in no way an expert on any of these topics. I have, however, been doing lots of research on using them. I’m linking to the experts in this post to help answer your questions concerning Google Classroom and using digital products.
Google Classroom & Digital Products {F.A.Q}
Here are some frequently asked questions {and answers} regarding Google Classroom and using digital products.
Q: What kind of email do I need to set up Google Classroom?
A: You need to have a gmail email. Many schools already do. This does not mean you have to have “gmail” in your email address. Mine is gmail and does not because I had someone set it up for me.
Q: I have gmail. Now what?
A: Be sure that you set up Google Classroom under your gmail admin. In the search bar, type in “Classroom.” You should see a drop-down menu with several options. The first one is “Classroom Apps > G Suite.” Click on that, and be sure your account is turned to “on” it allows you to use Google Classroom.
Q: How do I login to Google Classroom?
A: Go to https://classroom.google.com/ and login to your gmail account. Here’s a great YouTube video on how to use Google Classroom by Teacher’s Tech. I love that it’s a tutorial for beginnners!
Q: How do I assign things to my students in Google Classroom?
A: I really like this tutorial from Glitter in Third. It shows you how to take her Google Slides products, but it will also work for my Google Slides products.
Q: I don’t want my students using ALL the slides. How do I only assign certain slides in Google Slides to my students?
A: Go to your Google Slides library. Make a copy of the slides in your Google Slides account. Rename the copy so you know what it is. Delete the slides you don’t want in the copied version. Only assign the ones you want to keep in this file. Be sure to “Make a copy of each student” if you’re using in Google Classroom.
Again, Glitter in Third has a YouTube video if you need to see it done.
Q: Can I use Google Slides using an iPad?
A: Yes. I pull mine up on the free Google Slides app. Learners can add text, lines, or move pieces from the Google resource when the resource is in EDIT mode {NOT presentation mode}. You’ll know you’re in edit mode when you see a menu up at the top of the screen.
If the Google resource you’re using has moveable pieces, encourage your learners to lightly tap what they want to move. A blue box will appear around the letter when it is tapped. This may take some trial and error at first.
Once the item has been highlighted with the blue box, they can move it by lightly pressing in the center of it and dragging it with their finger. “Pulling” on the corners of the blue highlighted box will distort what they’re trying to move, so encourage learners to keep their fingers IN the middle of the blue box.
Glitter in Third also has a FANTASTIC post for troubleshooting with Google Slides. {Yes, she’s that awesome!}
Q: Do I have to use my Google Slides resources just for Google Classroom?
A: No you don’t! Here’s a FANTASTIC post that can help you adapt your Google Slides digital learning resources for other learning apps, too!
Below are some awesomely tech savvy teachers I recommend:
Enjoy teaching digitally!

Becky,
Are you allowing the use of your products in Google Classroom? I do not want to take advantage or inappropriately use your materials. I have greatly appreciated the materials you provide in my classroom. The digital learning is a new technique, and I want to be sure to abide by your policies.
Wendy
