Fun with Word Patterns (Phonics) | This Reading MamaWe’re on Day 8 of Teaching Spelling Through Word Study.  If you’re joining me for the first time today, you can click HERE or on the photo above to see Days 1-7.  I’m joining some other amazing bloggers from iHomeschool Network! Although word sorts are the heartbeat of word study, GAMES and FUN WORD ACTIVITIES can and should accompany the word patterns being studied.

Examples of FUN with WORD PATTERNS:

1. Games

Sort-Say-Score word study gameSort, Say, Score!, as described in this post

Word Wac Woe Game with word sortWord-Wac-Woe (a variation of this sight word game)- Both players write 9 words the sort on their “board”

Word Wac Woe Game with word sorts-2Place head words at top of work space. Shuffle rest of word study word cards and them place face-down in a pile. Players take turns picking off the top card, reading it, sorting it, then crossing it off his board (if he has the word).  First player to cross off all his words is declared the winner.
