MBug {currently 3 years old} LOVES to cut. She’s been especially excited about cutting since I bought her some spring scissors of her very own last week.
NJoy has had a pair for a year or so now and to avoid the fighting, I bought her some just for her. These scissors seriously ROCK for the beginner! They have a spring option, making them super easy to open and close.
Cutting Practice Pack
Since practicing scissor skills is a great way to strengthen those fine motor muscles used for writing, I created a Thanksgiving-themed cutting practice pack I’m calling Cut it Out!
The pack has four different levels:
Level 1- Cutting Straight Lines
Level 2- Cutting Curved Lines
Level 3- Cutting Zig-Zag Lines
Level 4- Cutting Shapes
MBug is currently working on the Level 1 activities, while NJoy {5 years old} is working on Level 4. This Cut it Out! pack has been such a hit at our house, I plan on making one pack a month, each with a different theme.
My main goal in making this cutting practice pack was to develop cutting activities that give your child something to do after she has cut out the cards and pictures. That way, you’re not left with a pile of cut up paper that gets trashed immediately.
For example, the cutting strips can be used for patterns or counting cards {much like the pattern cards you’ll find in each of my Reading the Alphabet lessons}.
The cutting cards can be used as simple puzzles,
then reassembled and glued down on paper.
And the Level 4 activity makes a fun shape that kids can create and glue down on the provided template.

Thank you, Deb!
We are using SO MUCH of your reading printables this year – I am homeschooling two boys for kindergarten and they seriously love doing your projects. Thank you for making this available!
You are very welcome. 🙂
My 2 year old loved the turkeys to cut out! Looking forward to using it next year, too!
Awesome! I know my 3 year old will be excited to use these next year as well! 🙂
