I have another seasonal sort for you today! 🙂 This one works on r-blends (consonant blends), specifically pr, tr, cr, and dr at the beginning of words. It is a picture sort and asks the child to focus on listening for the beginning blends in the words, also known as phonemic awareness.

What are Consonant Blends?
Consonant blends can be found anywhere in a word, but are typically found at the beginning and end of shorter one-syllable words, especially in the books for younger readers. I like to explain to kids that blends are: Two letters; put together and you hear both sounds. You can find this printable poster below in Set 4 of my BOB Books printables:
A Christmas-Themed Consonant Blends Picture Sort
The picture sort is called Presents Under the Tree and here’s what is on the FREE download (found at the end of this post).
4 Christmas trees: pr, tr, cr, & dr
and 20 consonant blends cards (5 of each r-blend). The last page includes a picture key.
Once the present picture cards are cut apart, use them to say each picture’s name and sort the present under the correct r-blend Christmas tree.
