Christmas Word Search Puzzles by Syllable Types

Enjoy these Christmas-themed word search puzzles with your learners. Each puzzle includes twelve words specific to a syllable type pattern.

You’ll find a puzzle for closed syllables, open syllables, CVCe syllables, r -controlled syllables, vowel team syllables, and final stable syllables. There are also answer keys for each puzzle.

Christmas Word Search Puzzles Example for CVCe Words - This Reading Mama

Each word search puzzle has a word search at the top where words can be found forward, backward, or diagonally. At the bottom of the puzzle are Christmas-themed pictures. These pictures may relate to winter, various Christmas Around the World traditions, or the nativity story.

Three helps are given for each word. First, the number of letters in the word is indicated by the number beside the picture. Second, if the answer has two words, like “ice skate” or “wise men,” two blanks are provided with the number of letters in each word under the blanks. Lastly, the word is hidden in the puzzle.

Note: In order to get enough words for each puzzle, there may be some that are unknown to your learners. I recommend going over them ahead of time. You could even work on spelling them together before they start on the other words. For example, on this page, “yule log” may be tricky for some learners.

Enjoy Christmas!
~Becky

Oh, dear. In the first word search, “BELLS” seems to have an L missing.
I have made word searches in my time, and know how easily that can happen when time is short. Is it too late to fix that?

Thank you for all your amazing resources. So inspiring!

It’s been fixed. I’m sorry for the delay! Next year, it will be perfect. 🙂
