I know I’m a day late in posting this, but I wanted to show how simple it is to integrate writing, math, crafts, and seasonal fun into one lesson!
We created a Christmas Tree Countdown (similar to an Advent calendar) like we did last year. This photo is from last year’s tree.
ALuv was able to write ALL the numbers himself this year! He compared his numbers to those he’d written last year and commented how much better he was at writing his numbers this year. It’s fun when kids can see their own growth. 🙂
The fun part about this Christmas Tree Countdown is that starting on December 1, you can glue one pom-pom to each number (beginning with 25) and you are decorating your tree at the same time that you’re counting down each day. What fun!
Merry Christmas! (23 days left; but who’s counting?)

Thank you, Deb! 🙂
I really love this idea! Thank you for posting this! It is so great when we can incorporate math and writing into activities that our kids find fun! It sure takes the whining out of our school day. On my blog I’m writing a roundup of my top ten advent activities, and I’m linking back to this post. I would love to include one of your photos if you wouldn’t mind. Again, thanks for writing this!
