Last week, we met for our second Charlotte’s Web book club. Before going, we were to have read Chapters 1-4.
Our goal was not only to have the kids listen to the chapters, but to do some writing. Some of us did copy work. I chose to do writing prompts with ALuv. Some of my prompts came from/were adapted from here, but I also created a few of my own.
ALuv answering Chapter 1’s prompt: If you were Fern, what name would you have given your pig? I was amazed at how little resistance he put up to drawing a picture. I think knowing he was going to have a peer audience was a great motivator!
During the week, NJoy dabbled some in the PreK Farm packs I made.
His favorite activity by far was the emergent reader book called What Do I Say? I can’t tell you how many times he’s read this thing since gluing it together!!
At our 2nd Meeting:
The older kids came in and did some coloring (some from the Charlotte’s Web lapbook and others from this farm mobile).
They practiced their roman numerals again
then listened to chapter 5 (Charlotte). Afterwards, they talked about making friends.
ALuv was also able to share the writing prompt pages he had answered with his peers (a wonderfully authentic way to re-read for fluency).
The Tots:
While the older kids worked, the younger kiddos listened The Very Busy Spider, the perfect companion to Charlotte’s Web! 🙂
Afterwards, they played with farm animal masks and sang Old MacDonald; making animals noises, of course!
and traced with some of the pages from my PreK farm packs.
NJoy and his friend (who share the same birthday!) really enjoyed working this farm cube puzzle. I think they completed three sides together. I was amazed at how long they sat together and worked!
Craft Time
After the reading activities were complete, one of the moms led a super cute spider craft that most of the children participated in.
gluing on the eyes and naming their spiders.
