This week, MBug (3 years old) had a blast with this beginning letter sounds Easter egg hunt game! It was so simple to put together and she played it over and over again.
To Prepare the Beginning Letter Sounds Egg Hunt
- First, I used the information I gathered from my letter/sound assessment I did with MBug. This gave me some ideas at to what letters I wanted to use on her Easter basket mat (free download at the end of this post).
- I wrote the lower case letters I wanted her to play with onto her mat. The free download Easter basket mat is blank so you can write your own letters inside them. Feel free to use upper case or lower case. Included on the download are also mats you can also adapt by putting words inside to work on rhyming words, short vowels or long vowels. (This is completely open to adapt for your child. I’m just showing how I used it with MBug.)
- I went through our sound tubs and pulled smaller manipulatives to go with each letter. For example, I used button for b and ring for r. If you don’t have sound tubs, use items you have around your house. Toys and kitchen items work GREAT! I have tons of ideas in my 5 days of Toys and Manipulatives.
- I hid the items for each letter inside plastic Easter eggs, one manipulative in each.
To Play the Beginning Sounds Egg Hunt
- I hid the prepared eggs around the schoolroom (10 total).
- MBug searched around the room, found the eggs, opened them up, and we worked together as she placed them on the corresponding letters on the Easter basket mat.
- Repeat as necessary. (You know you’ve scored points as a mommy teacher when your child says, “Let’s play it again.”)
