Reading the Alphabet: Letter N (Lesson 17)

Reading the Alphabet, free preschool reading curriculumI have been so encouraged in emails with those of you who are using these activities with your classrooms/children!  It blesses me so much to hear!  If you’d like to check out Reading the Alphabet further, click on the image above or HERE. You can read the introduction as well as see each lesson’s printables and the things we did with them.

Lesson 17 focuses on the Letter N and the sight word is.  We had a busy week, so between Valentine’s parties and sicknesses, I’m not sure we got to every activity; but we did most of them.

FREE Emergent Reader for Letter N {This Reading Mama}

The emergent reader has 6 letter N pictures while introducing is.  Former sight words (it and a) are also reviewed in the text.  {Sample page above.}

Here are a few shots of our Letter N week:

Initial Sound Picture Sort for letters N, P,and K {This Reading Mama}

Picture Sorting with Letters N, P, and K.  Believe it or not, this was his favorite activity this week.  Why?  We used the floor space instead of the pocket chart.  He made it into a game where he put the picture cards outside of the schoolroom and he ran out to get them, ran back in, sorted, and continued until they were all sorted by initial sound.  Go figure!

FREE Pocket Chart Letter N Book {This Reaidng Mama}

Building Letter N Book on the Pocket Chart- {this one could also be accomplished on floor space or a table top}

Playdough mat for sight words {This Reading Mama}

This week, our sight word poke page was put into his Handwriting Notebook and used it as a playdough mat.

Rhyming Sort with NOSE {This Reading Mama}

He enjoyed finding the four pictures that rhymed with nose and the two that didn’t.

Print Awareness Craft for Letter N {This Reading Mama}

My favorite activity this week was the Noodle Print Awareness activity!  He enjoyed it as well.  I thought it turned out great!

Count and Trace Numbers 1-20 {This Reading Mama}Here he is counting and tracing the number 12.  I can’t quite convince him yet that you start writing a number with the digit on the left.  {He’ll get there…}

Roll and Cover Activity for Numbers 2-12 {This Reading Mama}

He really enjoys rolling the dice, counting the dots, and dotting the matching number {2-12}.  I do interject number sentences sometimes, like “4+2 equals 6″ so he can start making those connections, but we don’t dwell on it.
