Winter Cause and Effect Matching

The concept of cause and effect may seem obvious to most adults, but it can be a bit tricky for kids to grasp.

Essentially, a cause is an event that makes something else {the effect} happen. The effect is the result of cause. In other words, the effect happens beCAUSE of the cause.

Cause and effect are a part of natural life. We might ask a kid, “Are you sad because you haven’t had a turn on the swing?” The cause is others are swining on the swing. The effect is the child is sad.

Today, I’m sharing some free cause and effect matching cards with a winter theme.

Winter Cause and Effect Matching Cards

Learners not only need to identify which of the cards fit under the “CAUSE” category, but they also need to match the causes to the specific effects as seen above.

Once the cards all get shuffled, it’s not as easy as it may seem! That’s why I’ve included an answer key on page four of the file. 🙂 Yes, you’re welcome.

This is a great challenge for older learners and can lead to some great discussions about cause and effect.

Enjoy!
~Becky
