Roll & Cover Spelling Words Game
This game is VERY simple. My Kindergartner and I played it together just this week, although learners can also play it by themselves.
Players create their own Roll & Cover Game Board by writing words on the board, one letter at time. You can have them choose from a predetermined list, like their spelling words for the week. My Kindergartner picked her words from her Kindergarten Spelling Folder.
I’ve included boards for 4 letters, 5 letters, 6 letters, and 7 letters. Chances are, not all your words will have the same number of letters. Before playing, have learners cover the empty circles with transparent counters. I prefer using transparent counters because all the letters in each word are visible throughout the entire game.
Learners roll the die, then match it to the die on the Roll & Cover ABC board. They cross off the first available letter on that board. {I slipped ours into dry erase pockets and used dry erase markers to make the game re-usable.}
They find that letter and cover it in all the words on their board with transparent counters. For example, since my Kindergartner rolled and got an e, she covered all of the e‘s on her word board.
I played with my Kindergartner, so we took turns rolling and covering our boards. {Note: One person rolled, but we both covered our boards with each roll.}
Learners can also use dot paint to dot the letters, but the game board won’t be reusable.
If players play by themselves, they want to see how quickly they can cover all the letters on their board. If learners play each other, they see which one of them can cover the game board first. Fun and simple spelling words practice!
