Roll-a-Story Printable Pack
Understanding how to tell a story is an important reading AND writing skill! When learners have read a story, they need to understand how to retell it so it makes since. This includes elements like:
- characters
- setting
- plot told in order {a.k.a. problem/solution}
If you teach young learners or older learners who struggle, you know that their retellings are often missing a key literary element. The same can be said of the stories they write. They may lack an important component {like a problem} or have so many problems, it’s hard to even keep track of the story.
That’s what this Roll-a-Story Printable Pack is for. In it, you’ll find character, setting, and problem inserts for * pocket cube dice plus writing paper to encourage your learners to roll and tell a story.
*If you don’t have pocket cube dice, you’ll seriously want to get some! I have LOADS of free pocket cube learning activities on the blog. Or you can just shuffle the cards and place them facedown. Draw a card from each pile to create your silly story.
If you teach younger learners, forego the writing option and just tell the silly stories together out loud.
If you teach older kids {2nd-4th grade, for example}, use the opportunity to teach about fiction text structure. Then learners can write their silly stories.
I mean, really. How often does a pirate get to go into the forest to be chased by a dragon? Or a superhero who lives in the city shrink to the size of a pea? Or a boy who visits a castle get turned into a frog?
