Reading the Alphabet Letter U Activities

FREE Letter U Emergent Reader | This Reading Mama

This past week’s letter is U with the sight word he. This is the last sight word in this curriculum as next week will be a review week.

Like all the lessons, it comes with an emergent reader and many other activities to accompany. {The “Ewww!” at the end of the reader was added by NJoy. It wasn’t originally there, but he told me I needed to include it, so here you go!}

We had a busy week and his motivation was at a low, so we didn’t get to all the activities. But here are some of the ones we did do:

Tracing the letter U

Tracing the Letter u pictures {from Carisa’s Raising Rockstars Preschool Curriculum}. He LOVES tracing the pictures just as much as the letter u. I’m not sure what the method is to his madness, but it’s totally fun to watch.

Roll and Stamp Numbers 2-12 | This Reading Mama

He didn’t really want to do the roll and cover activity this week and told me he was going to just dot the numbers in order. I said, “Go for it!”

placing stickers on letters to form a word, fine motor | This Reading Mama

He did, however, enjoy using stickers to cover the sight word he. He made sure I knew that he was placing the stickers in the same pattern as the strokes for writing the letters. Made my heart proud!

Syllable Count and Clip with Letter U Words | This Reading Mama

He’s got the syllable clip card activity with complete independence!

Initial Picture/Sound Sort with U, L, and R | This Reading Mama

 He would not let me get anywhere near him as he did his initial sound picture sort. He’s Mr. Independent these days. 🙂

    As a former second grade teacher and now a homeschool mom, I cannot tell you how much I have enjoyed your Reading the Alphabet curriculum. I have used it with great success with my son who is a bit older but struggling in reading, and your curriculum has really given him the jump start he needed in his reading. From a momma’s heart, thank you.

    Our family loves your curriculum so much, I wanted to ask also if you had recommendations for the next step after this one? What did you start your children on when they finished Reading the Alphabet? Thank you so much.

      Thank you so much for your sweet comments. This year, we are slowly moving through Set 1 of the BOB Books and I also have a huge collection of Kindergarten readers (from my teaching days) that we are working through.
