Printable Outdoor Scavenger Hunts for Kids

It’s so tempting to allow lots of screen time indoors in the heat of the day. Use these scavenger hunts to get outside for some fresh air and Vitamin D. All you’ll need is a printable hunt of your choice, some good walking shoes, and maybe a flashlight {for the nighttime hunt.}

Psst! These hunts are also a great way to spark some discussions and exploration with science concepts such as plants, animals, habitats, constellations, and more! If your child shows an interest in a particular topic, you can explore that interest further through books and online resources. I also have some unit studies for K-2 learners.

These science books lists can help:

  • Books About Plants
  • Books About Animals
  • Books About the 4 Seasons

In this free pack, you’ll find 9 different hunts {3 of each kind}:

1. Backyard Scavenger Hunts – These hunts are designed to get kids outside in their own backyard to find things. Encourage learners to find a quiet place to sit and observe. When they find something from their board, they can check it off.

2. Neighborhood Scavenger Hunts – Take a simple walk in your neighborhood to find the things on your board. Cross them off when you do.

3. Nighttime Hunts – Grab your flashlight and go on a nighttime hunt! Listen for animals and look for things you might not observe during the day. Cross them off when you hear or find them.
