10 days of giveaways

Welcome back to 10 Days of Giveaways…a celebration of 2 years for This Reading Mama!  If you’re just joining the celebration, please click on the image above or HERE to see all of the giveaways.  ALL giveaways will end on Wednesday, March 6th.

S-S-Blends-Cover

Today, I am super thrilled to tell you about Katie of Let’s Grow Speech!  Trust when I say that you’ll be very impressed with the articulation books she’s created to help mamas and classroom teachers.

I’ve always enjoyed articulation and actually was required to take seven diction classes in my undergrad as a voice major.  My roommates and I would write letters to one another in the International Phonetic Alphabet.  We *were* such word nerds.  Okay, okay.  I still am a major word nerd. 🙂  If you’re a word nerd too {even if you’re not}, you’ll enjoy Katie’s Let’s Grow Speech Articulation Activties!

Katie sent me a free articulation book so I could see what it’s all about.  I chose the /s/ and s-blend book because NJoy has a minor lisp with those sounds.  {To see all of her books and an awesome introductory video, be sure to visit her site!} I was very excited to look through it and glean ideas for him!  I’d like to tell you about what love about the articulation books.

  • tips for teaching articulation are included, helping you know exactly how the child should create the sound with his mouth {placement of tongue, etc.}
  • fun and hands-on activities are planned {with printables} for many themes, including school days, Christmas, or spring
  • activities are provided for the word, sentence, and story level
  • a book list is included with suggestions for how to use those books with speech and articulation

Want to enter to win an articulation activity book from Let’s Grow Speech?   She is giving away one of these articulation books {winner’s choice}.  You can enter via the Rafflecopter widget below.  Note that the only mandatory entry is a comment on this blog post.  All other entries are optional.  Please read the Terms & Conditions before entering.

Don’t want to wait?  Katie is offering a 20% discount {starts today and ends March 9th}.  Just enter “readingmama” as your promo code when you check out!

    I think the best part of this product is the fact that it will teach me how to teach my children. I have struggled with two minor lispers and managed to get them out of it, but my third is so much harder, and his speech is just not improving as much as I would like.

    I like the idea of hands on activities to help my daughter learn how to create sounds appropriately. She has trouble with T’s & I have been struggling to help her learn it correctly.

    I always thought kids just talked the way they do because they’re mouths(?) just aren’t mature enough yet to make all the “right” sounds. I just figure each of my kids will grow out of it. BUT my oldest is only 6 and does a couple minor issues. So maybe this book would change my thinking?

    My favorite thing would be that it could help with pronunciation. My middle daughter can’t do the sh sound. I’m sure you can imagine that we want to help her learn it!

    Oh, my goodness, I made a comment – looked at the website again, and had to come back and comment again. We have a 13 y/o cognitively impaired child that we homeschool. She has speech delays as well. It just dawned on me the other day (one of those DUH!) moments, that the reason she is struggling so much with reading is that she doesn’t articulate correctly! I would really love to win this set, but meanwhile I will really hope and pray for a way to purchase the set in the near future. Thanks for featuring this on your blog! Much appreciated!
