Lately, I’ve been trying to get ALuv a little more comfortable with typing. It seems every time I get him on the computer it’s, “Mom, where is the K? Mom, where is the ___?”
I discovered a fun way for him to practice typing and his sight words quite by accident the other day: KidPix!
ALuv put a textbox in KidPix and started typing up a knock-knock joke; then he pushed a button that read the text out loud to him. (Even though he’d misspelled words, it still read correctly because he had spelled his words phonetically.)
Did you figure out what he typed? Knock-knock. Who’s there? A joke. A joke who? A joke that will knock your socks off.
So, I got this wild idea: What if he used KidPix to type sentences with his sight words??
I pulled out 5 sight words, gave him directions and away he went.
The COOL thing about KidPix is if the child forgets to type a period at the end of the sentence; like he did after the word PANTE (paint); the voice keeps on reading until it gets to one. Self-correcting!
Pretty cool and FUN-a great combo!
