DIY Pattern Block Mats

By thisreadingmama 2 Comments

After making our Thanksgiving Pattern Block Mats, I wanted to show you how SIMPLE (not to mention fun) it is to make your own pattern block mats. While we scanned ours, kids can also trace around their shapes onto paper if you don’t have the equipment to make them this way.

Materials for Pattern Block Mats

  1. Pattern Blocks
  2. a scanner or copier
  3. paper
  4. marker/crayon (optional)

First, let your child design his or her own pattern with the blocks on your scanner.  My son made a “car”.

Copy the image and print it onto paper.  It’s that simple!!  Others can enjoy working the puzzle once it’s done.

As an optional step, your child can color in his or her creation (ALuv’s rocket) to make it easier for younger children to work.  Use the same colors as the pattern blocks; so the trapezoids would be red, triangles green & so forth.

Simple, fun, & educational (and your kids get to “play” with something that’s typically off limits). You can’t beat that winning combination!
