MBug {currently 2.5} thoroughly enjoys playing with little people. The boys have so many vehicle sets. They only played with the vehicles. Not MBug. She plays with the people. Putting them in. Pulling them out. Taking them for a ride. Talking to them. It’s so fun to observe her. Maybe it’s a girl thing…maybe it’s just an MBug thing. 🙂
I was super pumped when Learning Resources offered to send our family their new All About Me Family Counters! To say that MBug was excited about them is an understatement. Just the other day, as I came into get her from her nap, her first words were “I need to get my people.”
I could go on and on with reasons why I like these family counters {and Learning Resources, for that matter}, but I thought I’d show you…through the eyes of MBug.
She loved sorting them by color and did this over and over again.
on her schoolroom table
in containers
again with a measuring cup {scooping and dumping}
NJoy {4 years old} tried sorting them by type of counter, but this didn’t sit too well her. Once I explained how he was sorting them, she made peace with it and tried to help, although this kind of sort was a little more abstract for her.
She enjoyed playing “dress up” with our playdough, giving the people hair and clothes.
We “built” our family together
and she washed the baby {while the kids “mopped” my kitchen floor}.
If Learning Resources is new to you, I’d love to tell you just four of my favorite things about their products:
- many of them are self-contained, so I don’t have to run to the store and buy a storage container for them
- they come with instructions and developmentally appropriate ways to use the product
- their products are educational yet FUN {my kids enjoy playing with all of the Learning Resources products we have…and we have a lot!}
Learning Resources is also having a special All About Me contest going on right now with these counters with some really cool prizes.

These counters are so adorable! They would be great to use during our All About Me unit, Family unit…and they are much more interesting to use for counting and sorting! Your daughter is just too cute playing with them, I love that the baby had a bath 🙂 Thanks for this opportunity!
I would use this for teaching emotions and feelings in a family unit.
These look really neat. I have a 4 year old who will be starting school in the fall and a soon to be 3 year old. I bet they would have a lot of fun with these!
These are great. I would use them for counting, sorting, and patterns. And my kids would find lots of ways to pretend play with them, I’m sure!
These are so adorable.
These are cute! Caden (age 2) just recently got into playing with “guys”. I think he would love these!
My two wee ‘uns can count to twenty, but can’t yet do simple addition or subtraction. I’d use these to help start teaching basic maths facts.
I’m looking for counters for my dd5 who loves her dollhouse and plays with only the gingerbread men from Candyland. Ds9 might like them, too!
I would use to to explore a unit on feelings.
My little guys would love these too! They love playing with anything – even grass- to play through what they are learning in life:)
We would use them a lot! My daughter would love using these to continue to learn and strengthen her math skills (adding and subtracting) and I also loved your idea of using playdoh with them! They would be great to use to act out stories we may be reading too… the possibilities are endless! Thanks!
I would love a set of those for my son. So versatile!
We are just getting started, so we haven’t actually done homeschooling yet. My daughter turns 3 next month. I am gathering materials and resources so we can get started then.
These are so cute! I think my daughter would like these a lot. Always looking for creative ways to teach my cognitively impaired child.
Adorable! We would use them for counting and sorting but also for tons of imaginative play!
My kids (3 and 1) would love these! So fun and versatile. 🙂
Cool! My littles would love these! I have a little one who loves people too 🙂
These look great for my 2.5 year old!
I can see a lot of possibilities for these, but the first place I bet I would find them is in the dollhouse. Most small people spend time there before we can use them for any other activities. 🙂
I’d use them for counting and making patterns
I’m sure the little girls will play with them as dolls 🙂 But we can use them as counters for math too and for color sorting for those same girls.
These are wonderful! I would use them as early addition and subtraction tools for my oldest and my youngest would probably love to play “people” with them and ride them around in her stroller 😉
The boy loves sorting colors and “counting”, so that’s how we’d use them right now. 🙂
How stinking cute are these? One son is really struggling with addition and subtraction. These could help a lot.
These would be very helpful in teaching my son addition and subtraction.
These are adorable! If we don’t win I think my two girls will find a package in their Easter baskets! Thanks for sharing!
I would use them to practice sorting by color and for counting practice.
I love that they are different colours, sizes and genders. So many sorting activities/family tree creations, adding/subtracting activities that can be done with these.
These would totally be great math manupulatives and fun for teaching our kindergarten unit on family and community!
My 1year old would LOVE to sort these little guys! Under good mommy supervision, of course
My kindergartner would for sure use them for addition, subtraction, sorting and patterns….but my 2nd grader would do much more of that play doh dress up stuff! great giveaway!
These are really cute and I could think of tons of ways to use these
These could be used for all sorts of things such as games, math, imaginative play, inside or outside activities, bath time, same/different, the list could keep going!
These would be great for so many activities, I love things that can be used for more the one idea.
I would use them for sorting and counting activities
I would use these for my two youngest children. Even though they are five years apart, they would both be able to learn so many things from using them! 🙂
I would use these in our homeschooling & also a quiet activity to bring along to Church.
Love these little people. My boys have (and love) their bug counters, but they would love these people.
Playing and counting
The family counters would be perfect for my soon to be three year old daughter, Lilly. She would love to use them for sorting, counting, and just playing with them in general. She, like your little one, loves to play with little people. Her sister has Polly Pocket dolls and she is constantly pulling them out to play with them.
These look super cute and fun!!! 🙂
I think my 5 year old would love these for counting and all sorts of things.
I can see my 3 year old sorting by color and counting. I would also use them to introduce big, bigger, biggest. I can see my 5 year old playing house and being very creative with them! The possibilities are endless!
they seem so great for learning colors and learning counting!
I would use these for counting and learning colors. I’m sure my kids would love to just play with them as well 🙂
While they would make great math manipulatives, my littles would probably use them for lots of creative play! I can see coats being cut out of felt, too. 🙂
So cute! I love MBug’s idea of sorting and think both my little boys would love to do this too!
I would use it with “the doorbell rang” and other ‘story’ problems
Three of my kids are still in the “counters” stage, these little people would be such a hit!
The possibilities are endless! I could use them for addition, subtraction, sorting, counting, colors…… These are really cute and look fun 🙂
Counting, sorting, playing and so much more!
what a creative way to teach counting i love it
I would love to win this. Thanks for the giveaway.
These are adorable! We would use them for math (starting addition), but I’m sure my 4 year old would find hours of enjoyment out of sorting them all the different ways and making clothes for them, too.
One I would use them for math…color, size, counting, etc…
These are so cute! My 4 1/2 year old son would have counting and sorting; while my 19 month old son would enjoy driving them around in his dump truck.
For counting, patterns, sorting for 3, 4 & 5 yr olds
I have seen preschoolers use these in many ways. They were always used during their play time. However, they can easily be used with older students as well. I am a tutor and educational consultant and I can see using these to help one of my students to learn multiplication.
