This particular week was a light week of school.  We had several pre-scheduled events that kind of took over and school for NJoy was bumped down a little on the priority list.  But here are the D activities we were able to squeeze in. 🙂

I introduced the D sound by using my sound tub.  My D tub contains: dinosaur, dog, domino, dragon fly, donkey & duck.

We reviewed it the next day.

I pulled out our plastic dinosaurs (thanks to Target’s $1 bin) and he enjoyed those.

Do-a-Dot Painting for the Letter D (first two are from COAH)

This one is from Carisa’s D Tot School Printables

Stamping the Letter D with upper/lower case D’s and a dog stamp (also from Carisa’s D Pack)

Six Little Ducks Board Book

My wonderful and very talented husband made a special wooden holder for all my big books in the attic.  Now I’m able to find what I want when I need it.  Yay!  So I pulled out two big books for the letter D.

We read Six Little Ducks (over and over again, mind you)

& Daniel’s Dinosaurs by Mary Carmine.

Letter Review

While organizing the attic, I also came across some more file folder games I’d already made and a lot of the “teacher books” I have been wondering about for quite some time. 🙂  This ABC game matches upper to lower case and is from a Kindergarten-leveled file folder game book made by Carson-Dellosa.  I can’t find the exact one I have, but here’s a list of other ones they have.

In lieu of a craft for the letter D, I set up some dried beans and let the boy play with some vehicles, especially with his dump truck (trying to emphasize the /d/ sound at the beginning of dump truck).  This was a hard thing for me to let NJoy, who has endless amounts of energy and likes to make messes, do.  I had to set up one clear rule beforehand: the beans stay IN the cookie tray or they get put away immediately upon removal.

We hung this picture above the D on his Word Wall.  This picture is smaller version (I hand drew) of the dinosaur on the Dino Coloring Page in Erica’s D printables.

Thank you for joining This Reading Mama on a literacy journey!
