My kids all love Lego bricks. So when we can use them for schoolwork in any fashion, it’s a win-win for everyone! ALuv {currently 2nd grade} recently worked on the genre of descriptive writing a bit. I whipped up a quick Lego-themed graphic organizer for him to use for some descriptive writing.
Descriptive Writing with Lego Bricks: Step-by-Step
This descriptive writing activity is easy-peasy to use with one child or multiple students!
First, students build their creations. Let them be as creative as they’d like to be.
Next, they use this graphic organizer to jot down phrases that describe their creations. {I’ve updated the organizer by adding a little pizzazz since this photo. There are four colored organizers from which kids may choose: black & white, red, pink, and blue.}
Last, they write about their creation on this free writing paper or on their own. There are two kinds of writing paper provided: lined paper {like you see pictured above} for younger students and one for older. I’ll be sharing more about the writing process of his piece in the next lesson of Simple Writing Lessons!
More variations of this activity are included in the printable, one of which is a fun riddle game kids can play as they practice some descriptive writing!

Becky! This is really great! I will be sharing this with my readers, too. I think my son will enjoy this very much!
Yay! Thank you, Mary!
I teach kindergarten and my students are struggling with sentence writing. I can not wait to get back to class to try this. This is amazing. Thank you so much for sharing.
You are very welcome!
