By thisreadingmama 1 Comment

If you’re just now joining This Reading Mama through our book club of Charlotte’s Web, WELCOME!  You can read about the first four meetings by clicking on each link below:

  • 1st Meeting (chapter 1 read aloud)
  • 2nd Meeting (chapters 2-4, 5 read aloud @ meeting)
  • 3rd Meeting (chapters 6-7, 8 read aloud @ meeting)
  • 4th Meeting (chapters 9-11, 12 read aloud @ meeting)
  • 5th Meeting (chapters 13-17)
  • Last Meeting

Today, I’m posting the activities we did at our fifth meeting (based on chapters 13-17).  We will get to the end–I promise! 😉

fine motor, marblesBefore meeting, NJoy and I did a few farm-related activities from my PreK Farm Units, but his favorite by far was this marble idea I found and pinned.

There were only 2 of us mamas there for this meeting, but we still did all the activities originally planned.

D color by numberUpon arrival, the younger kiddos colored this D is for Dog color by number page.

Charlottes Web writing prompt for Chapter 17The two older boys drew and wrote a writing prompt for Chapter 17 (If you were Fern or Avery, what part of the fair would have been your favorite?)

Fair writing prompts for Charlottes WebBoth boys chose the ferris wheel.  Then they read their prompts to one another (a great way to have an authentic audience).

No No Titus Read AloudWhile the older ones listened to chapter 18, the younger ones and I read No, No Titus; a story about a dog on a farm.

rhyming words with BINGOAs follow up activities, we sang B-I-N-G-O with rhyming words, like I posted about here

dog number matching worksheetand this dog counting/matching worksheet (not sure of the link).

Craft Time!

Then, we all met for a fun craft!  We took clear contact paper, peeled off the back, then taped it to the table; with the sticky side facing up.

drawing on contact paperThe younger kiddos drew dogs on the sticky part

tissue paper on contact paper craftand used tissue paper to decorate their dogs.

contact paper craft for Charlotte's WebThe older boys drew a spider’s web on theirs

craft for Charlottes Web, recycleand used recycled boxes (with words) to cut and paste a descriptive word they’d use for themselves.
