FREE Magnetic Alphabet Build-a-Word

FREE Magnetic Alphabet Build-a-Word for PreK/K | This Reading Mama*This post contain affiliate links. Please read my full disclosure policy for more information.

As MBug {currently 3 years old} is working through the alphabet this year school year, I created these Magnetic Alphabet Build-a-Word pages for her.  We used these magnetic letters {I bought two sets to have enough letters}. I only included the most common consonant beginning letters in this activity pack {the link for the download is at the end of this post}.

My purpose in making them was to have her practice letter recognition and beginning letter sounds {also some middle and ending sounds}, not to ask her to memorize how to spell these words. She also is also working on print awareness as she builds the words from left to right. Most of the pages include CVC words. All the words are short and don’t take a long time to create with magnetic letters. {NJoy, at 5 years old, has also used these this year a bit to work on sounding out simple words, so they work for multiple ages of preschoolers or Kindergartners.}

To do this activity with your child, you’ll need to print the corresponding letter(s) you’re working on and place it on a magnetic cookie sheet (available at any $1 store). Ahead of time, I pull out the letters my kids need to build the words {so they’re not wasting time looking through my plastic bag of letters} and place them in a container to the side.

If this looks like something you think your kids at home {or classroom on kids} would enjoy, feel free to download. I do ask that you abide by the Terms of Use listed on the first page of the download. Thank you. For more PreK/K printables, please visit my Preschool Printable page!
