Letter L Book List

The letter l books included in this list include some for the young learner as well as the older child {Kindergarten-age.} I was bummed to discover that some of these books are no longer in print…but they should be because they are definitely favorites of mine!

Ten Little Ladybugs by Melanie Gerth is one of those books not so easy to find. It features a rhyming text, simple for little ones, and counting to 10. We have a few of these books in this collection and my youngest learners love to count the objects as we read.

This Little Light of Mine is a favorite song at our house. This book has most of the familiar stanzas included plus a cute little story told through the pictures that kids will enjoy.

I Love you Through and Through by Bernadette Rossetti Shustak has been a toddler favorite at our house for years. I love the illustrations and the message that no matter what kids do, they will be loved.

That’s Not my Lion, an Usborne book, is a part of an entire “That’s Not My…” series that features great interactive books for younger learners. Kids can feel each page and learn some great vocabulary words as they do! The end always ends with “That’s my…” when the child discovers the right toy.

Is Your Mama a Llama? by Deborah Guarino is a fun little guessing game that rhymes. It includes riddles to help llama find her mama. Kids learning to rhyme will enjoy shouting out the rhyming word before you even turn the pages!

Lost! by David McPhail is such a fantastic read! If your kids love the a Bug, a Bear, a Boy books, this one is SURE to please. I’ve read this book for more than 10 years now and enjoy it every time. The boy finds a lost bear in a big city and they to figure out a way to get the bear home only to find that now the boy is lost. So cute!

groucyladybug
The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle is one of those books that’s packed with all kinds of learning. Learning about time, learning about animals, learning vocabulary, learning about manners, and learning about ways that authors use text to teach. We just sat down and read it AGAIN last night. 🙂 My kids love the way the pages are arranged, especially when they get to “slap” the ladybug with the whale’s tail {we have to take turns on that one.}

I love, love, love Leon and Bob by Simon James and am so bummed that it’s harder to purchase now. Bob is Leon’s imaginary friend and helps to make the new move not so lonely only one day Bob disappears. I LOVE how the book ends, as kids have to totally connect the dots themselves {a.k.a. infer} as to what exactly happened to Bob.
