Letter J Book List
The j words featured in these books are: jeep, jellyfish, jumping, jelly bean, jamberry, jelly, jet, & Jesus.
Sheep in a Jeep by Nancy Shaw is such a fun little book about some careless sheep driving down a steep hill. I have not only used this book to read with kids, but as a reader for kids who are learning about the ee and ea phonics patterns because there are TONS of words with these patterns in them.
Nonfiction books are a GREAT tool for learning about the world. Seriously. Would you like to get up-close and personal with a jellyfish in real life? Jellyfish by Carol K. Lindeen is an easy read for younger kids about jellyfish.
Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed by Eileen Christelow is one of her many monkey books. This book follows the classic finger play/song exactly and is included in my list of rhyming books that you can sing!
Jamberry by
I’ve never met a child who doesn’t like the Peanut Butter & Jelly rhyming song! Even my girls ask for it while we’re waiting at the doctor’s office or in the car. And Peanut Butter & Jelly by
If you’ve seen any of my other book lists, you already know that Barton Byron is a favorite because of his simple illustrations and text. And while it may seem odd to include a book starting with the letter p on a letter j book list, Planes features different planes, like a jet plane.
If You Were a Jelly Bean by is a clever, interactive that asks kids to fill in the blank as they read. For example, kids are asked to name what color, jelly bean, or toy they would be if they could choose. Because kids get to interact with the text and fill in the blanks, each time you read it, it may be a different book!
Since Jesus starts with J, I had to include my absolute favorite Bible read aloud stories book, The Jesus Storybook Bible. Even if you know every story of the Bible, I can guarantee you’ve never heard them like this before! I don’t think I’ve ever read {or re-read} one of these stories without tearing up. I simply adore how they weave the story of Jesus into every story from the beginning to the end.
