As you experience Mother’s Day today, know that I am right there with you! Being a mom isn’t always easy {it seldom is}. But I don’t think that’s how God intended motherhood. For me, it’s been a refining process like none other.
For example, before kids, I kept a completely tidy house. Every single thing had it’s place and there was seldom a crooked picture or piece of dust anywhere. Fast forward 8.5 years later, and you’re hard-pressed to find a straight picture or piece of furniture that lacks dust. A perfectly clean house is just not a reality when I have four kids home all day, learning, playing and exploring.
You see, I had to lay down my “priorities” of having the perfect house {and some pride as well} to love on and minister to these four munchkins I call my “blessings”.
Am I saying I have let my house go completely and we live in a pig sty now? Absolutely not! A messy house drives me c.r.a.z.y. and I want my kids to learn responsibility for their things. {They do clean up their messes…most of the time.} But what I am saying is sometimes we have to let go of the things we deem “important” to make room for the most important priorities in our life. So, as for me and my house, we will have crooked pictures. 🙂 That’s just the season I’m in.
So HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
Here’s to crooked pictures and straight priorities.

I was the very same way before kids. Having three kids in five years will definitely make you prioritize things better. Thanks for this post. I love reading them. I also love your reading curriculum. My DD’s are doing great with them. I can’t print the readers fast enough. Keep up the great work.
You’re welcome. Just keeping it real. And so good to hear you are enjoying the curriculum!
Amen! I could have written this exact same thing. Thanks for posting this message for us to remember today and always. I love my children but sometimes I find it hard to give up on my old, (clean wanting) ways! 🙂 Blessings to you today!
I have days where I really struggle with it and make the kids go on a cleaning spree with me. But I’d rather have kids with happy memories from childhood than to say I stamped out their creativity in the name of a clean house at all times. Blessings to you as well.
Love it! Prioritizing really is the key! Thanks for the honest post–gives hope to mamas like me! Happy mother’s day!
And we all could use a little hope, especially as moms. 😉
