FREE Fraction Folder

By thisreadingmama Leave a Comment

Grab this FREE Fraction Folder to help your learner{s} remember what they need to about fractions. Note: This is subscriber freebie.

My daughter spent much of her school year working on concepts related to fractions. And although it was a fantastic curriculum, I found that as we moved onto new fraction concepts, she would sometimes forget some of the older concepts {even though the curriculum was spiral.}

I decided to create a fraction learning folder so she’d have one spot to access much of the content she’s learned over this school year. I’m calling it her “Fraction Folder,” and today, I’m sharing a copy with you!

NOTE: Once subscribed, an email will be sent to your inbox. The email contains the link and password to the subscriber freebie page where you’ll find this and LOADS MORE subscriber resources!

FREE Fraction Folder

Although my K-5 Math Folders {also a subscriber freebie} have a section about fractions, I wanted a folder entirely devoted to all the fraction-y things. So, here it is!

The concepts in the fraction folder include:

  • Understanding Fractions – definition, vocabulary, and how to represent them
  • The 3 Kinds of Fractions – proper, improper {I seriously had a high school teacher who called these “Dolly Parton fractions}, and mixed numbers
  • Equivalent Fractions – definition and how you find equivalent fractions
  • Special Fractions – fractions that make 1 and fractions that make a half
  • Converting Fractions – from mixed numbers to improper fractions
  • Adding and Subtracting Fractions – with similar and dissimilar denominators*
  • Multiplying and Dividing Fractions
  • Converting Fractions to Decimals
  • Fraction Lingo – half, third, fourth/quarter, etc.
  • Reducing Fractions using the GCF

Here are some images from the inside of my daughter’s folder.

fraction folder - an inside glance

I used colored file folders and stapled them together using my long-arm stapler to form a tri-fold folder. If you’re not sure how to do this, I explain that process in my Spelling Folder Post.

You can cut the pages out and assemble the concepts however you feel is right for your learner/s. You might even add other math concepts from my K-5 Math Folders.

*Note: The method shown on the folder for adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators is from the homeschooling math curriculum we use and love, Math-U-See Epsilon. I think it’s a genius way to teach it, especially at first.
