My kids first “reading book” was Blue Hat, Green Hat by Sandra Boynton. The love it because it’s about a turkey who messes up every time he tries to dress himself. The pages are simple and repetitive so they learn the words by memorizing. My 3 year old was able to read it after it was read to him several times. When he reads it and notices he didn’t do it in the right order, he will go back and point to where he messed up and then correct the misread word.
