Looking for a fun and hands-on way to teach letters and their sounds? Then these printable alphabet puzzles for uppercase and lowercase are a fun activity!

Printable Alphabet Puzzles
NSis {age 3.5} would sometimes walk by the computer while I was working on my Spelling Activities and Games ebook and ask, “Is that for me, mommy?” Every time I’d answer with no, she’d sigh with disappointment. So it was time to make something for her!
As soon as she saw these alphabet puzzles, she asked me to print them out and do them right away! I love it when my kids start off eager. It makes teaching much easier when the motivation is already there, doesn’t it?
To start her off, I printed off the letter A mat and pieces onto cardstock. You might have a child who can work the puzzle without the base letter mat, but it is a challenge. I cut out all the letter a pieces with images on them (all the vowels have short and long sounds included) and mixed them up.
As she picked up a piece, we identified the image together and I said, “Acorn starts with an a,” emphasizing the sound like this: “/a/-/a/-acorn.” While I was doing this, she put the piece in the puzzle.
If you have an older child who is ready for more of a challenge, place two alphabet puzzles and mats out at one time.
Ask theย child to sort each picture by its sound onto the correct mat. Because the mats are self-checking, this makes for a wonderful independent activity!

Thanks! So glad you stopped by to comment.
I love all the great things that you have created and have used all of the ones that I printed. A while back I downloaded your binder where you started with one letter and it had three letter words where the child would sound out. I used it and used it andI lent it to someone and can’t find my thumb drive that I had it on. Is it still available? Again, thank you for all you do for parents and teachers.
Wonderful resource. A bit young for the pupils I work with, but excellent all the same.
