I received a free copy of The Novice Tutor in exchange for my honest opinions. You can read more about this in my full disclosure policy.
Before I became a homeschool mom, I was a private reading tutor out of my home for about 4.5 years. When it was time to move away from tutoring, I had to find a new tutor for seven students {a full load for me}. But I didn’t start out with seven. Oh, no. It was very hard work getting the first one; let alone six more! And some days were very discouraging as well.
We bought our house with the intent that I would tutor. My hubby even built in a wall in our “living room” {which is now our schoolroom} so I’d have a space just for tutoring. I had tutored while in school, but had never been out on my own. Getting the first student was tricky and then there was going school to school, marketing myself. It was a little tough at first.
I really do wish Adrianne had written this book BEFORE I jumped into the tutoring world! She answers some of those basic questions like: How much should I charge? What subjects should I tutor? or How and where should I advertise? She also gives tips and advice for those not-so-basic questions such as: Where do I find free or cheap tutoring resources? or How can I use Pinterest to grow my business? You can check out the table of contents for yourself below.
Great Reasons to Tutor
- If you have a passion for a certain subject {let’s say it’s math}, you could use that passion to tutor kids in that particular subject {You may be a classroom teacher or homeschooling mom and can do this!}
- I can say first-hand that it’s an amazing feeling to see a child who claims she “can’t read” to begin excelling in the subject in which you tutor {It is SO rewarding to see that light bulb come on and know that you were a part of it!}
One of my favorite parts of Adrianne’s ebook is all the wonderful tutoring resources she shares in the second half! She shares math and reading resources disguised as games so learning will be fun.

Thank you for your super kind review of the book! I wish I would’ve written awhile back too, but I was just starting myself and not too sure. 🙂
You’re very welcome. Thank you for providing such a comprehensive resource!:)
