Motivation is a huge factor when it comes to learning. I would venture to say that it is as important as the learning; for if the child is not motivated, it can become a struggle to even teach him. One great idea is to make learning fun. While we aren’t able to do this all the time (and I would argue that we shouldn’t), it is totally fun to mix some fun in the recipe now and then. Here are some great ideas for doing this from last week’s link up.
Card games are such a fun way to teach concepts. The learning concepts that Fantastic Fun and Learning shares are more for younger elementary, but if you have older kids, other adaptations could easily be made.
How much fun is this?? My oldest LOVES to “play” on our Google Earth app. Teach Beside Me shares a book and a free printable for taking it one step further in such a fun way!
Make it kinesthetic! I love how Life Over C’s adapted this idea for sight words. We’re going to have to try this one at our house! 🙂
Add some movement to learning! See how Coffee Cups and Crayons mixed in some word learning with basketball. Super fun!
Think about the child’s interests. My son has enjoyed playing baseball and likes to watch it on TV at times. So, when it was time to work on reading of base words, I naturally integrated baseball to reinforce his learning.
