All the games in my printable packs are very similar in style, but different in phonics skills. So far, I’ve posted low-prep learning games for beginning sounds, ending sounds, CVC words, and blends and digraphs. Today’s long vowel games are the next in line and the free download can be found at the end of this post.
10 Low-Prep Long Vowel Games
Just like all the low-prep phonics games I’ve posted so far, these games can be played with 1 player or with 2 players with very little tweaking.
They also do not require much prep work at all, so you can print them out and play them almost immediately. The only prep work that’s required is finding a few manipulatives like you see above.
In this pack are two levels of long vowel games.
The object of both levels is to see which crab can reach the beach first, based on the short and long vowel patterns from the game board. If you want to see a full explanation of how to play, visit my beginning sounds games, as the rules are the same. Each game board also has the rules for playing stated right at the top.
Level 1 asks kids to compare short vowel sounds to long vowel sounds. Please note that a long e board is excluded because there are not many e_e patterned words. Level 1 has four boards.
Level 2 asks kids to compare two long vowel patterns to one another. There are six free boards in level 2.
