Day 1: Learning Resources Giant Magnetic Pattern Blocks {Review and Giveaway}

By thisreadingmama 229 Comments

This product was given to my family by Learning Resources for free in exchange for my honest opinion.  To learn more, please read my full disclosure policy.Learning Resources Giant Magnetic Pattern Blocks- Review and Giveaway | This Reading MamaI am so excited to bring you seven days of school day giveaways!  To start us off with a bang, today I’m giving away this set of Giant Magnetic Pattern Blocks from Learning Resources.

Playing with Pattern Blocks

My three oldest kiddos play with our small pattern blocks {a must-have math maninpulative, in my opinion} almost on a daily basis.  So when I saw that Learning Resources had new giant magnetic pattern blocks, I just knew they’d be the perfect fit for our family.  We’ve enjoyed playing with them in many different ways.

Just the other day, my 4.5 and 3 year old both sat down for several rounds of “Build it the Same Game” {a name we made up}.

IMG_0627

I used our magnetic dry erase board to build a picture or shape with the pattern blocks.

IMG_0629

They used their own pattern blocks to re-create the same shape.  I was amazed at how well they did, especially my 3 year old!

My oldest son {almost 8 years old} and I did a few of the activities listed in the activity pamphlet that comes with every Learning Resources product.

How Many Ways Can you Make a Hexagon | This Reading Mama

For example, he built hexagons with as many different combinations as he could think of.

TriangleChallenge

Then, we took on a triangle challenge.  How large of a triangle could we build using the shapes we had?  This was super fun and challenging for ALuv {and his mom}!  Once done, he recreated the largest triangle with the smaller pattern blocks.

Giant Magnetic Pattern Block Perks

  • There are PLENTY of pattern blocks provided in the box, 47 pieces total so building pictures and shapes is easy and fun!
  • Activities are provided for your child to try, from PreK to elementary age.
  • If you’re a classroom teacher, these make the perfect visual for your entire classroom.
  • They are open-ended.  There are so many things kids can do with pattern blocks.  Really, their imagination is the limit.
  • These magnetic pattern blocks are the same proportions as the smaller pattern blocks, making it easy to demonstrate and practice shape concepts together.
