We want our kids to practice handwriting. And while practicing with handwriting pages is a good place to start, we need to make sure we incorporate some creative handwriting practice every once in a while to keep them interested. Today, I’m sharing 7 creative ways to practice handwriting, from learning formation of letters to cursive handwriting that kids will enjoy.

1. Name Art – Starting with your child’s name is always a great place to start with anything you’re trying to teach. Why? Because it sparks interest, which is half the battle when teaching kids.
2. Incorporate Playdough {3 Dinosaurs} – Handwriting sheets can turn some kids off. Adding some playdough to the mix is pure genius! 3 Dinosaurs also has uppercase letter pages with Playdough, too.
3. Make it multi-sensory {The Measured Mom} – These ideas show you that you don’t always have to have paper to practice handwriting!
4. Use “Clever Cat” {Learn to Play at Home} – I love, love, love this creative and clever (pun intended) idea for helping kids understand how to use the lines on the paper to form letters.
5. Spell with LEGO Letters – Using LEGO bricks to spell words helps kids begin to see the shapes of letters (that some letters are tall, some have a “tail”, etc.)
6. Alphabet Road {Playdough to Plato} – Adding toys, such as cars, helps kids understand how letters are formed.
7. Bendy Sticks – This is a great activity for spelling AND handwriting because kids use the lined template to place the Bendaroos or Wikki Stix into the correct position before copying on their own paper.
