This free beginning sounds chart is the perfect resource to have when making rhymes or working on word families with young children.
If you’ve ever worked on rhyming words with young kids, you know how important beginning sounds are in that process. After all, to create rhyming words, all you do is take the beginning sound {or onset} off the word and add a different one.

Beginning Sounds Chart
One simple way to use this chart is to take a rime {such as -an} and just go through the chart like this b-an, bl-an, br-an, or c-an to see what real or silly words you can make from that one -an chunk or rime.
Not only does this chart work well with rhyming words, it can serve as a simple, one page resource for helping kids spell their beginning sounds.
This beginning sounds chart includes 55 different beginning sounds, which is more comprehensive than anything I’ve made before or could find on the internet. The chart has single consonants, blends, digraphs, and even 7 harder sounds like spr-, str- or thr-. Each beginning sound has an image and word featuring the sound. The chart comes in color and in blackline, too!
Enjoy teaching!

Ms Becky,
Your website…& all the hard work that you obviously put into it…is awesome! (warm smile) It’s SO nice to find sites belonging to teachers who love to teach. You can always tell those who have a genuine love for teaching vs those teachers who are more in it “for the money”.
I totally understand that websites can cost money to keep up…(not to even mention all the work & time involved!) which is why many people make use of ads & such) but the majority of printables & other online teaching materials these days (particularly those with larger packets & bundles) are priced WAY out of reach of many homeschooling households (or just regular moms & dads trying to help their kids with homework) who are already struggling just to provide the necessities for their children. It’s SUCH a blessing to find gems like yours where not only is much of the content free for those who need it but the material is also fresh & FUN, engaging, comprehensive & entertaining AND it WORKS! ;o)
Thank you Becky.
Praying that you”ll be richly blessed for the many rich blessings that you give to others.
