Helping kids how to see the relationship that letters and word patterns share is a passion of mine. I have seen kids grow in their understanding of reading and spelling in tremendous ways after studying how words are put together. My Word Study/Phonics board contains posts related to studying phonics and spelling. It is probably one of my favorite subjects to teach. 🙂 Here are a few of my most pinned posts from this board:
- Reading and Spelling Words with Silent e
- Helping Readers Make Phonics Generalizations
- Learning to Spell Using Patterns within Words {free printable resource page}
- FREE Blend BINGO
- 10 Days of Teaching Spelling Through Word Study
Follow This Reading Mama’s board Sight Words on Pinterest.
My Sight Words Pinterest board is where I collect quality activities related to teaching those valuable sight words. Sight words can be defined as those words that kids frequently see in reading. Many times, these words CAN be related to phonics. While it is great strategy to relate sight words to phonics when we can, these words are not words we want kids sounding out every time they get to them. Because they happen so frequently in text, we want them to be automatic so that their reading is more fluent and their minds can be freed up to comprehend. Here are some of my favorite sight words posts:
- When Sight Words Just Don’t “Stick” (understanding the development of word learning)
- Roll and Write Sight Words
- Popsicle Stick Sight Word Puzzles
- Spelling with LEGO Letters
- The Teaching of Sight Words (Part 1 and Part 2)

If you would like fresh ideas for teaching comprehension or have a child who struggles with it, you are sure to find what you need! Here are a few top posts from this board:
- Using Context to Teach Vocabulary
- Comprehension Strategies {reading = thinking}
- 5 Days of Teaching Text Structure
- How to Ask Question to Check Comprehension
- Before They Read: Supporting Comprehension and Fluency Before Reading (Part 1 and Part 2)
