With the approach of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, I thought it would be fun to make a silly rhyming poetry pack that was a little playful with rhyming words. It does feature quite a few contractions, but we have a few freebies for contractions if you are interested in those. To see all the Poetry Packs we’ve created so far, please click here.

Silly Rhyming Poetry Pack
Some words make for easy rhyming fun {blue, shoe, zoo, moo, etc.} while others aren’t so simple. How about orange or purple? And that’s what this poetry pack is all about!
My Kindergartner read the poem with me on the first day. He found and circled rhyming words in the poem and we talked about the humor in the poem.
We also discussed these questions:
- Who is the girl in the poem?
- Was she older or younger or maybe the same age as you?
- What was she really trying to do?
- Why is it so hard to rhyme with purple?
- Are there any other color words that don’t have many real rhymes?
Changing the Rhymes in the Poem
Besides drawing his mental image of the poem, one of his favorite activities to do with the poem each time is change out the rhyming words for other rhyming words.
This time was no exception. And it sparked a new idea.
In the pack is a new activity. After kids change the rhyming words with the rhyming word cards, they can then write in the rhyming words on a poem with blanks and then read their silly poem to others {great for fluency!}
