Print and Play Syllable Games
My almost Kindergarten has rhyming words down-pat. But syllables are a different story. We are working through them a little together. She was the inspiration for these games.
Just like all our Print & Play Games, they’re low prep {just grab a die and some counters}, use all black ink, and can be played individually or with a partner. You can add them to a literacy center or use them as a quick before or after reading activity.
In this download are 6 different syllable games. I’ve included a word picture/answer key, just in case you need it for any of the images included.
In these 3 games, learners roll a die, and name the image. He/she counts the number of syllables*.
Learners move the counter from start towards the doghouse, depending on the number of syllables in the word. The dogs “race” to get in the doghouse. Whichever one gets there first is the winner.
*Some learners really struggle to count the number syllables as they say the word and/or clap them. If you need to, use extra counters for learners to count the syllables.
First, put them in a straight row. For each syllable, they push forward a counter. Once they are done, they count the number of counters they pushed forward.
The other three games use the same pictures, but with a different format. In this game, learners roll the die, name and count the syllables, and race to the End. Learners can play by themselves until they reach the end or learners can play with a partner, each using a different colored counter.
