My “Party Post”

Ìóâè 43

Last night, I visited Confessions of a Homeschooler and noticed information about The Ultimate Blog Party!  I thought I’d give it a try.  If you blog, I would encourage you to do it as well.

So what is This Reading Mama all about?  My name is Becky and my passion is teaching and living literacy.  While teaching music in a private Christian school, I was introduced to the Montessori approach.  I went on to teach K-1 in a public school, implementing as much Montessori as I could; while getting my M.Ed. in Reading.  After having children, I became a private reading tutor out of my home.  I never thought I’d be homeschooling, but here I am…and enjoying spending this precious time with my three blessings.  I just recently started a blog to encourage other mamas (homeschooling or not) that they can teach their children to read and write…and it doesn’t have to be the equivalent of pulling teeth!

Most of what you’ll find on my blog fits into these categories:

  • building phonics & word knowledge (Word Study)
  • building sight word vocabulary
  • spelling and writing strategies
  • comprehension strategies and activities
  • Teaching Tips each Tuesday for mamas regarding literacy

I hope you’ll come visit and decide to join This Reading Mama on a literacy journey!

Stay connected to This Reading Mama so you don’t miss a thing:

    • I already have you on my blogroll! I will be checking in regularly to see what you’re up to and letting my readers know about you. I really like the layout of your blog. It’s very easy to navigate. This blog world is all new for me. I actually posted my blog in the wrong category for the UBP…oh well, next year I’ll know better!

  7. Hi! Thanks for stopping by for the UBP11 party! I’m off to look around your blog, it’s nice to “meet” you! :o)

    • I’m quite honored to “meet” you. You and Carissa (1+1+1=1) in particular really inspired me to use the passion God has given me for reading/teaching to blog. Homeschooling is more isolating than teaching in a school setting and I needed more of an outlet for my “teacher brain”. I also want moms to feel they have enough reading tools under their belt to be able to homeschool. From my experience as a private reading tutor, reading seems to be very mysterious for many mamas.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the printables you offer on your blog and have used them to teach my boys. Just today, I was reading a post on your blog about how you “do it all”…very timely for me! I need to go back and read it again and again. Thank you for being a minister in your home and on your computer!! :)

  8. Hopped on over from the UBP–it’s been nice meeting you and clicking around your blog. I’m a new subscriber and look forward to reading more of your posts.

  9. What a wonderful blog! I can totally see your passion for reading and for teaching your children to read. My kids are all grown now, but they’re still avid readers, and the love of reading they learned as children has made them better in every area of life.
