Here are the last couple of activities ALuv and I did with his -at words and pictures.
Slid the -at hat to make and write words. (My scanner isn’t working at the moment, but when I can get it up and running, I’ll scan and post this template.)
Glued pictures into his Word Study Notebook. (This is a picture of when we did the -ad and -an words, but we did the same thing with his -at words. He pasted the pictures and wrote the words beside them.)
A Word Study Notebook serves as a make-shift dictionary of all of the phonics skills we’ve worked on thus far. He can refer to it when spelling or reading other books.
So, how did I know when ALuv was ready to move on? When he could read the words independent of the pictures. This was not too difficult a task since only the first letter sound was needed to “read” these words, but on to the -an family we moved. I’ll post some of those activities soon.
