Letter M Book List
Naughty Little Monkeys by Jim Aylesworth is one of our favorite Alphabet Books. Mom and Dad go out for a nice date only to return and find that their 26 naughty, little monkeys have completely wrecked the house. Each letter of the alphabet is featured in a creative way in a rhyming story. So funny.
Ever looked up at the clouds and found pictures with your kids? It Looked Like Spilt Milk by Charles Shaw does the the same thing in book form. With simple, predictable text, even little ones can fill in the words as you read together.
Mr. McGreely wants nothing more to enjoy his new vegetable garden. But those sneaky rabbits continue to find a way in. After he builds a huge wall to keep them out, what will happen? Kids will LOVE the sound effects and watching Mr. McGreely as those rabbits outsmart him time after time in Muncha! Muncha! Muncha! by Candace Fleming.
Mouse Count by Ellen Stoll Walsh is not only a great read for the letter M, but gets kids counting forward AND backward. Will the mice be able to escape from the sneaky snake who wants to eat them? Read to find out PLUS check out all of Ellen Stoll Walsh’s mouse books. We have several and love all of them.
What happens when a little mouse wakes up to eat? A mess. A mouse mess. Mouse Mess by Linnea Riley is a cute, little rhyming book about a mouse that makes a complete mess in the kitchen as the family sleeps. While he doesn’t clean up his messes, we use that as an example of what NOT to do in our home!
Baby bird hatches out of his egg right after mama bird has gone off to find food for her baby in Are You My Mother? by P.D. Eastman. Since baby bird doesn’t know exactly what his mother looks like, he goes on a quest to find her, thinking that dogs, chickens, boats, and even airplanes could be his mother. Just as he is about to despair, something wonderful and unexpected happens to reunite him with his mother.
Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed by Eileen Christelow is the perfect read aloud for kids who love the song. It’s a great book to act out as well!
Machines at Work by Byron Barton is a simple, rhyming read aloud for any child, but particularly with kids who love construction vehicles. It also makes for a great bedtime story.
Happy Birthday, Moon by Frank Asch requires kids do some inferring, as the bear mistakenly thinks the moon is talking to him as he hears his own echo, although the author never comes out and says this. I also love how he personifies the moon in parts of the book. There are many opportunities to get kids thinking deeply about what could really happen. Love it!
