Letter D Book List
Ten Black Dots by Donald Crews is a GREAT book for so many reasons. And not just for tots and preschoolers, but Kindergarten and even first grade as well. Kids can even make their own dot books with circle stickers! Fun!
One Duck Stuck by Phyllis Root is another great book with clever rhymes, predictable text, and counting fun! I also love the alliteration use of onomotopoeias. {By the way, don’t get the board book, as it’s too abbreviated.}
Doggies by Sandra Boynton is SO fun! This was a favorite book of my oldest son for the longest time. Trust me, I had plenty of time to perfect my dog noises. It’s another another great counting book. Hmm…I’m seeing a theme here! đ
Rhyming Dust Bunnies by Jan Thomas is a hoot. Seriously. And it’s a great one for teaching rhyming words at the same time! This was also one of the first books my Kindergartner read on his own.
Duck on a Bike by David Shannon is a great one to read if you’re doing a farm theme. Can duck really ride a bike? Maybe he’d rather ride a tractor. Younger kids will love this one. My older boys still enjoy it every once in a while.
Big Dog…Little Dog by P.D. Eastman is an older book, but well worth the read! It’s silly and is a great way to teach about opposites.
Down by the Bay is a super fun book to read AND sing. It was originally sung by Raffi and has been an automatic favorite song/book of any young child I’ve ever encountered. And no, I’m not stretching the truth. It’s also another great read for rhyming words.
Domino Addition by Lynette Long is geared more towards Kindergarten and above, but if your young one likes dominoes like my oldest son did, it will keep her/his attention. It is a great book for teaching simple addition facts, one-to-one correspondence, and is fun to read with dominoes in hand, too!
How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight? by Jane Yolen & Mark Teague is a fun rhyming story about dinosaurs and their silly bedtime routines. It is a great one to read at bedtime, too! While Jane Yolen has several dinosaur books in this collection, this the only one we have read {shame on me}. I guess I have my work cut out for me at the library this week!
