I am excited to be taking part in 21 Days of Contagious Gratitude.
Gratitude is a learned attitude. And teaching our kids to understand that they are SO blessed (spoiled, really) is not always an easy task. There are so many things that we simply take for granted: our health, our homes, our food, our vehicles; the list could go on and on. But teaching gratitude is WELL worth the effort.
This year, I put together an ABC book called The ABC’s Of Thanksgiving!
Starting today (November 1), I want to take a letter a day and have the kids write/draw something for which they are thankful…from A to Z! This doesn’t have to take a lot of time each day, but I do want my kids, especially ALuv (7 years old), to be thoughtful and really count his blessings. At the end of the month, we can staple them all together and make Thanksgiving book! Who knows? Maybe we’ll read the book throughout the year…
Got preschoolers? I’ve also included a version for them. Ask your preschooler to draw a picture that starts with that letter and you can label the picture by writing the word beside it.
If you want to adapt this idea for your own use, there are blank templates for both your school-aged child (see above) and your preschooler.
So, take a stand this year! The world wants us to focus on what we don’t have. We must go against the flow and teach our child to be thankful for what we do. “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and THANK HIM for all He has done.” Philippians 4:6 (NLT)
