It’s always fun to study the letter that begins your child’s name! To watch his face light up when he realizes the power that that particular letter has for him is priceless. 🙂
We studied his NJoy’s name for letter N along with other N words. This was the last week that KDoll shared in our homeschooling as her mama got a wonderful teaching job and she needed to find full-time care for KDoll. We were sad to see her go, but VERY excited for her mama!
Introduced N’s Sound with our sound tub, saying each object with an /n-n-n/ at the onset.
My N items are: nose, nickel, necklace, nest, nine, & nail
We spelled our names: this idea was adapted from Carisa’s bottle cap name activity. I created a two-row table in Word, typed their names in the top row, and they used stickers from Target’s $1 bin to spell their names again in the second row. I did not type KDoll’s name on the second row, but to give NJoy a little extra support, I typed it again.
Craft: glued newspaper to the letter N (they used Q-tips to dip into the glue)
N Play-Doh (I love the look of concentration as he mashes it down.)
N is for Numbers: matching numbers
We did several activities from Confessions of a Homeschooler’s Letter N, including:
The book of the week was a favorite among all the kids: The Best Nest.
As a review of our letters thus far, I pulled out our LeapFrog magnetic Fridge Set (similar to this one) with upper and lower case letters and asked him to match the upper to the lower case. Then we reviewed each sound.
At the end of the week, we posted NJoy’s picture on his Word Wall. I will draw a nest and post it soon, as you probably don’t care to have his picture on your wall, if you use these. 🙂
Thank you for joining This Reading Mama on a literacy journey!
