Reading the Alphabet: Letter H (Lesson 15)

Reading the Alphabet buttonHere we are: Lesson 15 of Reading the Alphabet.  We’re about half way through.  Wow!  To see all of the lessons we’ve done so far, please click on the image above or HERETo download this lesson, please see the link at the END of this post.

In lesson 15, you’ll find activities for 5 days of reviewing the letter H and learning the sight word and.  You’ll also find several NEW activities!  NJoy was beginning to show signs of boredom with a few of the activities and I felt it was time to bump it up a notch. :)   He really enjoyed the new activities.  I will post about them here so you can see them.

NEW Number Activities!

NJoy (currently 4 years, 3 months) has been asking me how to add quite a bit.  So, I thought I’d let him do a little adding with this adaptation of the Helicopter Numbers 1-20.

Count the dots on the die and add

Roll two dice, count the dots

find and stamp the number 1-12

Then find and stamp the number. {I still have the other easier numbers 1-20 activity on the download.}

counting and tracing numbers 1-20

NJoy has also been trying to write his numbers more, so I created a number writing (really tracing) game for him.  I place a certain number of helicopters on his “mat”, he counts, finds the correct number and traces the number.  I was amazed at how long he sat and did this one!  I think it made him feel grown up. I’ve also included just the numbers 1-20 (with no tracing) if your child is not ready to trace numbers, yet.

Here is what the number cards look like (I have numbers 1-20 in the download):

New Sight Word Activities!

Color by sight word on helicopter

NJoy has just recently shown a huge interest in coloring, so now I’ve added a Color by Sight Word to the mix.  The loved this and was so excited to do this.

sight word wordsearch for preschoolers

The sight word search has also been updated a bit.  I’ve added more letters on each line and made it so that the letters from the sight word appear more than once on each line.  I have plans to make this one even more challenging in the next few weeks.

sight word mazes for preschoolers

He’s still very happy with the sight word mazes.  He will re-do them over and over.  In a few weeks, though, I’ll also be making these a little more challenging.

Word Wall for Reading the Alphabet

Here is a look at our Word Wall for Reading the Alphabet.  It’s getting full!  As you can see, I have backed the words onto different colored construction paper and laminated them.

Phonological Awareness

HCutandPasteaRhyme

I’ve also added a little twist to the Cut and Paste a Rhyme activity.  Instead of all the pictures rhyming, I’ve included 4 that do and 2 that do not.  The child has to figure out (with your help) with two do not rhyme.  Only the rhyming pictures are glued down to the HAT mat.

Emergent Reader

And don’t forget that each lesson has an emergent reader (a color as well as black and white version).  This particular one features things that start with the letter H and the sight word and, while reviewing sight words from past lessons.  The image above shows you a sample.

Okay and are you ready for this?  YOU CAN NOW DOWNLOAD THIS LESSON DIRECTLY FROM THIS READING MAMA!  Yay!
