Lesson 13: The letter focus this week was i (short i sound) and the sight word of the week was big.
Although I’m not posting about every activity, like I did with the first few lessons, I’m happy to report he did almost all of them. Sometimes, he just wants to play with MBug (currently 2.5) and I’m fine with that.
His somewhat new fascination obsession with Angry Birds has kicked into high gear and he has taken to coloring like never before (with his Angry Bird PJ’s on, of course!).
Like in all previous lessons, there is a 5-day lesson outline to help you navigate through these activities. Here are some of the activities in “action”:
building the emergent reader I book in the pocket chart
20 Grid with I-he used the letter I stamp this time
tracing the iguana-the boy seriously LOVES the tracer pages, mazes, and word searches that I store in his Handwriting Notebook! He goes back and reworks many of them from previous lessons.
He had another “off” week with his poke page, so we used Christmas stickers and he stuck them to the letters. It was a win-win…he is still focusing on the spelling and fine motor and having fun.
MBug likes for me to adapt the work for her and occasionally, they work on something together, like this do-a-dot page from COAH.
I Book/Print Awareness: Although this isn’t an official part of my curriculum, we focus on the illustrator and illustrations when we read books (to go along with the letter i).

For the next two weeks, I’ll be taking a break from posting these lessons to focus two back-to-back 5 day series (1- The ABC’s of Literacy Toys and Manipulatives & 2- Unleashing the Author in Your Child); but will resume on January 25th with the next lesson: the -IG word family.
