Click on the image above to see Lesson 1 (Letter T), Lesson 2 (Letter F), and Lesson 3 (Letter P) in action. EACH lesson from this curriculum has similar activities. Lessons are designed to be taught in this order because they build upon one another.
I linked up this lesson to Carisa’s Tot School.
This week has been a little hectic, with homeschooling starting back full-time. And while we’ve done all the activities for Letter M, I am not posting as many pictures and details as I did for lessons 1-3.
On the download, you’ll find a 5-day lesson plan; which will show you the order in which we did all of our activities. You’ll also find directions for each activity mentioned in this post.
LETTER M READING ACTIVITIES
The Letter Mm Reading Activities include a reader for the child and a pocket chart version. The reader can be printed in black & white or in color and so can the pocket chart pictures. NJoy chose the b&w version again this week because he wanted to color in his own pictures.
SIGHT WORD: I
There are several activities include with the sight word I.
- Sight Word Poke Page
- Sight Word Maze: I place these mazes into plastic sleeve protectors and then put them in his handwriting notebook. He likes to do them over and over.
- Sight Word Search- find I on each row.
- Sight Word Memory Match-This week, I added another sight word activity, which reviews all the sight words done so far in Lessons 1-4 (a, the, see, & I). I chose Memory Matching because it starts with an M! I drew the orange squiggles on the back of the cards before I cut them apart.
- Word Wall-At the end of the week, we placed the new sight word on his sentence strip word wall.
PHONOLOGICAL AWARENESS ACTIVITIES
Sorting M, T, & P Pictures by Initial Sound in the Pocket Chart: The T & P pictures are from Lessons 1 & 3.
Syllable Count & Clip: Count the syllables in each picture (from the M reader) and clip the correct number.
Cut & Paste Rhyming Activity (with MOON); these are similar to Jolanthe’s Alphabet Cut & Paste Sheets.
LETTER P PRINT AWARENESS ACTIVITIES
Moon Print Awareness: I was excited about our print awareness activity this week, as I integrated some craftiness into it. I’m not a fan of crafts, so it takes A LOT of effort for me to do them!
He drew his moon and stars on black construction paper with a white crayon. (I tried to encourage him to draw his stars to look more like a star shape, but he declared, “Mom, real stars in the sky don’t look like that! They look like circles!” Point taken.)
He put glue, then glitter on his moon and stars.
We glued down the sentence on a separate piece of paper that I attached. If you need further directions, you can view my guest post; which gives you a step-by-step guide on how to do this activity.
M is for MATCHING VOICE TO PRINT: Each time we read his readers, I made a big deal about his touching each word as he said them. When he would, I’d say something like, “Wow! You do such a good job matching your voice to the words!”
LETTER M FINE MOTOR/WRITING
1. M is for Mittens Tracer Page- This tracer page is placed in his Handwriting Notebook so he can do it again.
2. Cutting Practice & Pattern Cards: cut apart the strips and make patterns with the M pictures
3. Handwriting pages from Carisa’s Raising Rock Stars Preschool. I put these in his Handwriting Notebook.
LETTER M MATH ACTIVITIES
Letter Mm Grid: Roll the die, count the dots, and put that many “marbles” (I used the colored jewels that look like marbles). If you’re going for another M manipulative, marshmallows would also work. I first saw these grids on PreKinders. She has a lot of cute themed ones on her website!
Monkey Numbers: pick a number card, read the number, and dot the number. There are 2 versions on the download: #1-10 & #10-20.
All of the activities original to This Reading Mama can be found on this zip file!

Your curriculum and explanations with photos are so very helpful to so many. Thank you so much! Carolyn
So thorough! I love it. My son is attending preschool 2 days a week but I still need to work on incorporating some of this into our day. It’s so good.
